Almost 500 people demonstrated against the Lobautunnel today. The demonstrators cycled from the Praterstern to the Lobau National Park House in the sign of a sustainable mobility turn. “Today we once again showed how many people are willing to work against the monster project Lobautunnel!” Said Nora Haidowatz, spokeswoman for LobauBlibl, about the lively participation.
The planned praise tunnel is a symbol for everything that goes wrong in climate and social policy. “Austria misses its climate goals for miles, savings are made in social policy, but there are billions available for concrete projects. Today’s demonstration shows that people demand a clear assumption of responsibility from politics in the face of the climate crisis,” confirms Stefan Holly, spokesman for Lobau.
Global 2000: Social and climate -friendly solutions
“What it takes now are quick and climate -friendly solutions for the local people. Instead of a years of tunnel construction under a nature reserve, public transport must be expanded. This is faster, cheaper and socially just – and the only measure that makes sense in times of the climate crisis,” emphasizes Hannah Keller, climate spokeswoman for Global 2000.
Lobowing will continue to protest
If the cancellation of the tunnel is canceled, Lobau leaves announces further protests. The climate -political consequences of the praise tunnel are sufficiently proven. Alternatives have long been at the table. “A yes to a Lobau motorway is a no to the turnaround of traffic. In the meantime, the construction industry stuffs the bags full. We won’t allow that!” Explains Jutta Matysek from the Citizens’ Initiative (BI) Save the Lobau indignantly.
The demands are supported by a broad alliance. Among them: Global 2000, Greenpeace, Fridays for Future, System Change, Raddlobby, Cycling for Future, Bi saves the Lobau, Lobau Forum, Virus, Extinction Rebellion and Parents for Future.
