Living with a future – traveling exhibition about non-profit housing opens in Graz

Graz (OTS) The Association for Housing Promotion (VWBF) is pleased to report on the successful opening of the traveling exhibition “Living with a Future”, which took place yesterday in Graz. The exhibition was presented to the public for the first time in Styria together with the host, the regional director of Wiener Städtische Versicherung Michael Witsch, the SPÖ club chairman Hannes Schwarz and the exhibition initiator VWBF chairman Michael Gehbauer.

The traveling exhibition ‘Living with a Future’ embodies our Styrian vision of affordable housing, which we were able to realize one step further with the white-green housing offensive. By reducing rents and increasing the quality of living, we are answering the social and ecological questions of our time. This exhibition is not just a presentation of ideas, but a reflection of the real changes that non-profit housing creates for Styrians.“So SPÖ club chairman Hannes Schwarz.

The curators Rebekka Hirschberg and Julia Fröhlich from the wohnlabor association, in collaboration with the communications agency art:phalanx, have designed a captivating and highly informative exhibition about the services and importance of non-profit housing on the initiative of the VWBF, which runs from January 31st to March 28th can be seen in 2024.

Exhibition location and opening times

The exhibition can be visited at the State Directorate of Wiener Städtische Steiermark, Brockmanngasse 32, 8010 Graz, from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with free admission.

Short description of the exhibition

35 display boards provide a unique insight into the world of non-profit housing in Austria and underline the outstanding importance of this sector. Diagrams, statistics and dictionary entries clearly explain how the system works and what positive effects it has on the population.

Non-profit housing with a total of 1,000,000 managed residential units forms the backbone of housing provision for the Austrian population. This inventory, which should be guarded like a treasure, ensures long-term and permanently affordable living space for future generations on the basis of cost recovery.” VWBF chairman Michael Gehbauer underlines the socio-economic importance of non-profit housing.

A project showcase shows 20 residential complexes that have been built over the last 50 years. The settlements and buildings from all over Austria provide an insight into everyday realities and living spaces. The residential projects shown reflect questions about coexistence, administration, neighborhood development and environmentally friendly construction.

Traveling exhibition through Austria

The traveling exhibition “Living with a Future” was presented for the first time in Vienna in October 2023, then moved to the Upper Austrian capital Linz and will now be on display in Styria until the end of March 2024. She will then continue traveling through Austria to bring the topic of affordable housing closer to a broad audience. The exhibition addresses the non-profit sector’s approaches to solutions for a safe, social and affordable home, especially in times of great social, economic and ecological challenges.

With this display, the VWBF impressively shows that non-profit housing is not just about affordable rents, but also about a pleasant living environment, good neighbors and social cohesion, with people at the center.

Visit the exhibition “Living with a Future” and discover why we should rely on non-profit status and focus even more on the common good in times of multiple crises.
