Litschauer/Greens: Electricity Industry Act (ElWG) continues to drive energy transition

ElWG brings faster network expansion and easier connection of green electricity systems to the power grid

Vienna (OTS) “In order to generate 100% of the electricity in Austria from green electricity production by 2030, we must quickly advance the energy transition today. In addition to promoting renewable electricity sources, this also includes expanding the necessary infrastructure. With this law we are creating the framework conditions so that the energy sources of the day before yesterday, coal, gas and nuclear power, will be pushed out of our power grid and room will be made for renewables,” says Martin Litschauer, anti-nuclear spokesman for the Greens, pleased about the Electricity Industry Act (ElWG) that was submitted for review today and explains: “Right now In recent years, power grid capacities have been a major obstacle to connecting new green power plants. Now the distribution network operators are legally obliged to plan the necessary capacities and enable feed-in options for photovoltaic systems, for example.”

“Direct purchase agreements and the strengthening of energy communities will also significantly improve consumers’ opportunities to use regionally generated green electricity. This means that the population in the vicinity of wind power projects, for example, will benefit significantly more from these projects. This will help us to advance the expansion of renewable energies more quickly,” says Litschauer.
