The lighting manufacturer, Lights of Vienna, hosted a celebration at its headquarters in Guntramsdorf on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, marking its 30th anniversary. Many guests attended the anniversary event held under the motto “30 Years of Light and Passion.”
Owner and managing Director, Alexander Oborny, reflected on three decades of remarkable milestones, while also marking the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in the company’s history.
As part of the festivities, the company unveiled a revamped corporate identity, including a new logo, and premiered a new corporate film and a specially designed anniversary collection for the first time. The evening was hosted by actress Catherine Oborny.
From Water Metres to Iconic Lighting Fixtures
For three decades, the Austrian company has set global standards in luxury lighting. What began with an order for water metres from Saudi Arabia quickly evolved into one of the leading names in bespoke lighting. The groundbreaking order came with a pivotal project: the delivery of custom lighting for the mosque in Medina.
In 1994, the brand, Lights of Vienna, was officially launched. Another exclusive, large-scale order followed in 2011; more than 4,000 chandeliers and lights were supplied to illuminate the Grand Mosque in Mecca – at that time, the largest lighting project in the world. Since then, Lights of Vienna has been the exclusive supplier for all lighting fixtures in Mecca.
Over the years, the company has expanded its portfolio to include luxurious lighting projects for hotels, restaurants, residences, and yachts.
Strategic Realignment and Anniversary Collection
Looking ahead, Lights of Vienna is focusing on three core business areas: mosque lighting, exclusive luxury projects, and the development of a new in-house lighting collection.
Managing Director, Alexander Oborny explains: “With our own collection, we can respond flexibly and quickly to the needs of our customers. Collaborating with renowned designers plays a key role. Sustainability is a central factor for us – both in the production and design of our lights. We place great emphasis on durability, modularity, and reusability.

A highlight of the anniversary celebration was the unveiling of the exclusive anniversary collection, shown to an audience for the first time, which was designed by the designer Karin Binder. The “Storylights,” which won the 2024 BIG SEE Product Design Award, are versatile, modular wall and table lamps that can be customized to suit any mood through interchangeable glass, texts, and light sources.
