As one of the largest research events, the “European Researchers Night” takes place annually in 25 different countries in Europe and inspires up to two million people every year. On September 27, 2024 from 3 p.m., local researchers will once again show what science has to offer and how closely the topics are intertwined with our everyday lives. Children and young people in particular are encouraged to actively experience and understand research through the diverse offerings.
“This year’s event is designed so that visitors can slip into different roles and view science from different perspectives. As ‘Earth Explorers’ they deal with topics relating to climate and environmental protection, the ‘Health Explorers’ focus on medical issues, the ‘Tech Pioneers’ experience the latest technical achievements and the ‘Science Reporters’ learn to distinguish facts from fake news “, explains acib event organizer Katharina Schwaiger.
As a special highlight this year, “Science Slam” organizer and physics mobile operator Bernhard Weingartner (known from the ORF program “Fakt oder Fake”) was won as a project partner. He will host the Austrian “Science Slam” final in Graz on September 27th and will delight the audience with entertaining show acts from the finalists. In addition, Public Space’s pop-up planetarium will once again fascinate at the “Life is Science” main event for the second time.
In addition to hands-on stations and school workshops, the Chemistry Didactics team at the University of Graz around Philipp Spitzer is also planning an exciting fitness session together with Bernhard Weingartner under the motto “Mucki Bude – Salad makes your biceps shrink?!” on September 25th. 2024 in the outdoor pole park in Augarten in Graz.
Technical careers for young people
The European Researchers’ Night not only offers entertainment for young and old, but also teaches a wide variety of career paths in the MINT sector. The European Researchers’ Night enables dialogue between research and the public and thus sets an important example for the research location in Styria, as it increases visibility as an important player in the international research landscape.
