LH Mikl-Leitner on the death of Alfred Komarek

“He created a monument to the Weinviertel and was closely connected to his adopted home of Lower Austria.”

St. Pölten (OTS/NLK) “Alfred Komarek was not only a great writer and wonderful person, but also an ambassador for Lower Austria. With his ‘Polt’ novels and the film adaptations of his works, he has carried the beauty of the Weinviertel far beyond the borders of Lower Austria. In fact, with his Polt novels he even created an unmistakable monument to the Weinviertel and was closely connected to his adopted home of Lower Austria,” said State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Komarek, who died in Vienna this Saturday at the age of 78, was a novelist, essayist and literary companion in Austrian and European literary landscapes. He was also a supporter and co-founder of the Independent Literature House of Lower Austria. In addition, Komarek was the recipient of the Great Decoration of Honor for services to the state of Lower Austria and received, among other things, the Appreciation Culture Prize of the State of Lower Austria in the “Literature” category in 2017.
