LH deputy Landbauer at the conference of state sports speakers 2024
St. Pölten (OTS) –

The annual state sports speakers conference ended last Friday in Linz. Together, the representatives from all over Austria looked at the current sports policy agenda in order to discuss central topics and decide on future-oriented measures. A total of nine topics were on the agenda. The focus was once again on daily exercise and sports sessions. The State Sports Representatives Conference unanimously voted in favor of the rapid and sustainable implementation of this initiative. “The daily exercise and sports unit must be implemented into regular school lessons in the long term in order to keep our children and young people moving sustainably and to promote their physical activity,” appeals State Sports Councilor and LH Deputy Udo Landbauer. A sustainable rollout of the initiative should be ensured from the 2026/27 school year at the latest and implementation guaranteed until 2034 in order to implement the initiative across the board and strengthen the health of the young generation.

Another central point were the federal bases and federal junior bases. This has been discussed for many years, but the federal and state governments have now agreed to create uniform regulations for federal bases (general class) and federal junior bases. The federal professional associations are therefore required to strategically define sporting performance centers and thus raise their respective sports to a new level in the area of competitive and elite sports. In the future, there will be one federal base and three to four federal junior bases for each sport in the general class, which must meet the corresponding criteria. Only in some selected sports can there be a second and possibly third location due to many disciplines or different requirements. “Close cooperation between the federal and state professional associations will be crucial in order to optimize the development of our athletes and increase the quality of the training conditions,” said Landbauer. The starting shot will be given on January 1st, 2025 with summer sports. Winter sports will follow in 2026, followed by team sports.

Artificial intelligence, technology and innovation are becoming increasingly important in today’s competitive and elite sports and are an essential prerequisite for being successful internationally at major sporting events. The conference therefore clearly spoke out in favor of sustainable integration in sport. The Ministry of Sports is making targeted considerations to integrate these new aspects into competitive and elite sports. There will be close exchanges with the states to ensure that these technologies are also taken into account in the respective state sports strategies.
