On November 16, 2024, Ortrun Gauper will host the 2nd QUEER BALL in the Palais Wertheim according to the classic Viennese ball tradition. The program includes modern dance, a charity fashion show and numerous musical highlights.
QUEER MOMENTS founder Ortrun Gauper is using the International Day of Tolerance as an opportunity to hold a very special event to draw attention to the fact that we as a society still have a long way to go to barrier-free coexistence: For the first time, the QUEER BALL is not taking place in Pride Month June, but opens the Vienna ball season on November 16th with a glittering event in the Palais Wertheim. Ortrun Gauper about the special date: “On November 16, 1995, 185 UNESCO member states signed the Declaration of Principles of Tolerance. It defines the rules that enable humane coexistence on our planet. For QUEER MOMENTS too, tolerance is the basis for equal and appreciative cooperation. The QUEER BALL therefore offers a barrier-free platform for everyone and shows how valuable and inspiring human diversity and individual uniqueness are for our society.
Ortrun Gauper is also particularly pleased about the public support: Veronika Kaup-Hasler, City Councilor for Culture and Science of the City of Vienna, National Councilor Harald Troch and Thomas Steinhart, district leader in Simmering, are taking over the honorary protection for the QUEER BALL 2024.
Inclusive charity fashion show celebrates “Be who you are, because that’s a good thing”
Ball organizer Ortrun Gauper not only wants to entertain with the QUEER BALL, but also send a visible signal for social tolerance with an inclusive music and cultural program: “We are very pleased that fashion designer LA HONG curated an inclusive fashion show for us. In addition to young Viennese fashion designers, the focus is primarily on amateur models from Simmering, who will present unique fashion pieces created especially for them on the catwalk.
The project is supported by the Simmeringer Help Simmeringern Association. Viennese hairdressers ensure the models are styled appropriately
The charity fashion project is supported by the Federal Guild of Hairdressers in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. For Bernhard Krenn, member of the Federal Guild of Hairdressers in the WKO and deputy state guild master of hairdressers in the WKW, this is about an important contribution to the public discourse and a broad-based awareness-raising measure: “Our stylists help people every day to feel attractive in their uniqueness and valuable as individuals. We see this cooperation as part of our social obligation and are happy to make an active contribution to this meaningful project.

Modern dance, drag, disco and classical
The artistic program of the QUEER BALL is also designed by Ortrun Gauper to be inclusive and diverse: Ball visitors can look forward to a breathtaking dance performance by Keji Aregbe, Pandora Nox, Philisha Conditioner and Dance Company, while Robbie Gonzalez and Johann Rosenhammer provide unique musical performances Highlights of the evening will be provided. Weingut Fuhrgaßl Huber supports the project with QUEER MOMENTS Frizzante
Thomas Huber, fine winemaker and Buschenschank operator from Neustift am Walde, will be on board as a cooperation partner for the first time in 2024. He supports the initiative with his exclusive QUEER MOMENTS Frizzante Rose, which is available in supermarkets throughout Austria: 1 euro is donated to QUEER MOMENTS for every bottle sold.
QUEER MOMENTS event series invites you to social discourse
Since 2022, highly acclaimed events have been taking place under the umbrella of QUEER MOMENTS (QUEER NIGHT in Schloss Neubuilding, “QUEER MOMENTS in Lost Places” photo exhibitions and pride trucks, “Drag goes Classic” concert in the Haus der Industrie, QUEER CHRISTMAS in Concert in the Protestant Faith Church in Simmering, ROYAL QUEER MOMENTS clubbing, QUEER BALL in Schloss Neubuilding), people across generations and invited people to social discourse across all district boundaries.
Initiative of the Queer Dance association in community buildings
Queer Dance in Municipal Buildings is a non-profit and non-partisan association that has made a name for itself nationwide by organizing queer dance events in municipal buildings in Simmering. The aim of the club’s founders was to break down invisible social barriers through shared leisure activities and thus contribute to liberal, cosmopolitan coexistence.
