LET’S TECH Day in Vienna: Robotics, artificial intelligence and seven winning videos

The areas of robotics, automation and AI are among the most innovative and exciting within the electrical and information technology industry. They offer numerous opportunities for young talent to actively shape the future. We are pleased that we were able to introduce some of these to the students at our LET’S TECH Day.

OVE General Secretary Peter Reichel

Vienna (OTS) Robotics, automation and artificial intelligence instead of mathematics, German and geography: around 400 students from the lower and upper levels immersed themselves deeply in the technologies of the future at the second LET’S TECH Day on May 24th in Vienna. The winners of the LET’S TECH video competition were also announced as part of the event.

The varied hands-on stations and workshops ensured great enthusiasm among the participants at the LET’S TECH Day of the OVE Austrian Association for Electrical Engineering. There they were able to program a robot arm together, control robot balls with a tablet and experience first-hand what innovative technologies make possible. Young role models gave insight into their areas of work and were allowed to be interviewed. Anniversary for LET’S TECH video competition

The award ceremony for the LET’S TECH video competition also took place as part of the LET’S TECH Day. For the tenth time, the OVE, together with the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, selected the best student and apprentice videos on a given topic. The focus of the anniversary edition was the question “How do electrical engineers shape our future?” A jury of experts chaired by OVE Vice President Wolfgang Bösch (TU Graz) selected six winning videos from the numerous creative submissions. The winner of the audience award was determined through online voting.

Seven winning videos awarded

As part of the celebratory award ceremony, Helmut Leopold (AIT) addressed the winners in a video message and discussed the role of electrical engineering in our digital society. Three young experts (ALDIS lightning expert Hannes Kohlmann, Jessica Bauer, technical project manager at Energie Burgenland, and Simon Digruber, self-employed electrical engineer) provided insight into their jobs. The winners were able to look forward to tech vouchers:
