Letter to the government after a year of uncertainty
Vienna/Austria (OTS) – Leisure educators who Kinder in all-day schools, are demanding clarity in a letter to the federal government: After a year of uncertainty, they want the certainty that a planned amendment to the law will no longer be passed in this legislative period. Otherwise they threaten to take protest measures. Thousands of parents and children are also concerned.
Exactly a year ago, black-green plans were revealed that envisaged massive changes to the professional field of leisure education. The employees criticized the impending deterioration and went on strike: negotiations between the government, the GPA union and the works councils were the result. The negotiations have ended, but without a satisfactory result: “Through our efforts, the government’s original plans could be mitigated, but overall they would still be a deterioration.”
said Selma Schacht, chairwoman of the works council at “Bildung im Zentrum”, the largest affected company in Austria.
“We have been in uncertainty for a year. 94% of colleagues reject the draft. We want clarity that the government will not push through the reform against our will. If this promise is not made, we will organize a warning strike on May 22nd, the anniversary of the publication. “We are there for thousands of children and their parents every day – we don’t go on strike lightly,”
adds leisure educator Chantal Turel.
“We are always willing to discuss a reform of all-day schools if it brings improvements. But for a good reform, more resources and the involvement and consent of everyday experts are needed,”
emphasizes works council member Schacht.
