Last ORF “Europastudio”: Prof. Paul Lendvai says goodbye after 44 years as discussion host

On April 7th at 11:05 a.m. on ORF 2 on the topic “What’s going on with Germany?”

Vienna (OTS) Even if you can slow down at the age of 94, it is still a significant turning point in ORF TV information when Prof. Paul Lendvai makes his last appearance at the “Europastudio” on ORF 2 on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 11:05 a.m. asks. However, he remains with the audience as an Eastern Europe expert in the current ORF broadcasts.

In March 1980, Paul Lendvai invited people to the “Oststudio” for the first time, which he presented a total of 53 times until 1989. With the end of the Eastern Bloc, the program became the “European Studio” for the first time on February 4, 1990, for a total of 255 programs under the direction of Lendvai. He was only represented twice, once by Klaus Emmerich and once by Peter Fritz.

Only “Orientation” (since 1969), “Press Hour” (since 1979) and “Hohes Haus” (since 1980) have been on air longer. The “Press Hour” and the new discussion format “Die Runde” will continue to be shown at the “Europastudio” broadcast slot.

ORF General Director Mag. Roland Weißmann: “The ORF can consider itself lucky to have such a competent (Eastern) Europe expert as a program presenter in its ranks for more than four decades – not least because of his own eventful life story. With his international network, he has always managed to invite the best discussion participants for the respective topic. Prof. Lendvai is already certain of his place in the ORF history books, and may he add many more pages as an expert.”

Prof. Paul Lendvai: “I say goodbye as the inventor and presenter of the ‘Oststudio’ and ‘Europastudio’ with thanks to the ORF for the opportunity to moderate this international program for so long. I would also like to thank all the directors and editors-in-chief for their understanding in the selection of topics and for the absolute freedom they gave me when inviting guests.”

The last “European Studio” on April 7th

The most stable and strongest EU state is in a state of political weakness under the divided traffic light government. Economically, Germany is also in danger of losing touch. The chemistry between Chancellor Scholz and French President Macron is not right, and the Franco-German engine of the EU is stuttering. The dispute over arms and financial aid for Ukraine serves the aggressor Russia and endangers free Europe. An inventory with a view to the European elections and the danger of a Trump presidency in the USA.

This will be discussed under the direction of Prof. Paul Lendvai on Sunday, April 7th, at 11:05 a.m. on ORF 2 in the “Europastudio”:

Publisher “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”

Britta Sandberg
