Larissa Zivkovic with 90.05% elected as the new association chairman of the socialist youth

On the association day of the socialist youth Austria in Vienna that has just taken place, 22-year-old Larissa Zivkovic from Upper Austria was elected as the new chairman of the association organization.

In her speech, Zivkovic dealt with the current challenges for democracy, among other things. “Blue-black has failed, but its ideology has not yet. If we want to protect our democracy from Kickl & Co., we have to withdraw the breeding ground to their ideology. And that is only possible with a flooding of society with ‘democracy’, which also does not stop at the economy and the world of work! ”Said Zivkovic.

According to Zivkovic, a lack of participation in the workplace and low wages have a negative impact on democracy: “In a society in which the market is free, democracy is usually not. The participation ends where it is most needed: in schools, training workshops and operated. Anyone who has the feeling of being passed on and being excluded by essential decisions tends to look at democracy as a whole with great skepticism. This has shown, among other things, a Europe -wide study from last year. Democracy must not be limited to the Kreuzerl in the electoral cabin, it must also play a central role at work or at school. Those who produce the prosperity of our society with their work should also be able to say what happens!“, Says Zivkovic, who also suggests a mandatory right of co -determination by workers in companies in companies about all essential decisions including veto law.

To her choice, Zivkovic, who has been active in the SJ since the age of 14, says: “I am grateful for the trust that was given to me in this election. Taking the chair of the largest left -wing youth organization in Austria is a task that I look at with great joy, but also humility and respect. My claim is to do everything in my power in times when extreme rights are increasingly poisoning our society with its ideology, forming an opposite pole, which provides resistance and shows concrete alternatives to the neoliberal destruction course!“
