Kunsthalle Wien Prize 2024 goes to Rawan Almukhtar and Ida Kammerloch
Vienna (OTS) –

The aim of the Kunsthalle Wien Prize is to support emerging artists who live and work in Vienna and to promote discourse about contemporary art as part of an annual collaboration with the two Vienna art universities. The prize, awarded jointly by the Kunsthalle Wien, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the University of Applied Arts Vienna, is awarded by a jury of experts to one graduate from each of the two art universities. For this year’s prize, the jury assessed over 100 diploma and master’s projects from the fields of fine art and media art. Two artists have been selected for a joint solo exhibition at the Kunsthalle Wien, which opens on January 22, 2025:

Prone Almukhtar studied art and intervention | concept at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and was designed for his two-part installation HIJRA – Queering Borders and DUKHANIA – The Protesting Archive awarded the Kunsthalle Wien Prize. The exhibition features paintings and drawings inspired by his experiences as an activist and refugee.

Eastern Kammerloch studied TransArts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and was responsible for the video installation ULTRA ALL INCLUSIVE awarded the Kunsthalle Wien Prize. Born in Izhevsk, Russia, Kammerloch’s recent video essays address the uncanny discrepancy between Russian propaganda and the realities of citizens there.
