Kogler welcomes individual announced measures according to Graz attack

After the terrible assassination attempt at a school of Graz, Chancellor Christian Stocker has announced measures by the federal government today. In the question of gun ownership, however, Kogler advocates a fundamental rethinking: “Unfortunately, this terrible act has once again shown us brutally: We need a basic rethinking in gun ownership and weapons laws. The focus is on protection against weapons and no longer has the ubiquitous claim to their possessions,” gives Kogler of a long -term demand for the green emphasis. “The question is: What does a private individual need one or more weapons for at all? At the moment, almost every adult can buy and own a weapon with minimal requirements – with a few dimensions. We Greens want to turn around the principle: private individuals should usually no longer buy weapons – with a few sensible exceptions such as for hunters: inside, sports shooting: indicated people threatened.”

Werner Kogler gives the prospect of expansion of psychological care at schools as a major step towards violence: “We have to guarantee young people a quick and free access to psychological aid. A green health minister has expanded this offer for the first time. The federal government is required to continue to finance this program sufficiently and to ensure that the promised psychologists can actually start their work quickly.”

Kogler looks at Styria, where the blue-black state government leaves important support offers such as men’s advice financially in the rain. “This is a hard setback for violence prevention and a fatal sign.”
