Klaus Höring was chosen “Actor of the Year 2023” by the ORF radio play jury

Klaus Höring was chosen “Actor of the Year 2023” by the ORF radio play jury

Vienna (OTS) Klaus Höring was named “Actor of the Year 2023” by the ORF radio play jury. The honor will take place as part of the “Ö1 Radio Play Gala” broadcast live by Ö1 on February 23rd from 7 p.m. in the ORF RadioKulturhaus in Vienna.

Since 1997, an expert jury has chosen the radio play actress or actor of the year. This time, Klaus Höring was chosen for his outstanding performances in more than 50 ORF radio play productions, including the play “Sladek” by Ödön von Horváth (2001), in “Komm, Süßer Tod” (2002) by Wolf Haas, and in Elisabeth Weilenmann’s “Antigone. A poem” (2020), in “What do you see? The Night!” by Ludwig Fels (2022) or most recently in Daniel Wisser’s “Waiting Room” (2023).

“Working with Klaus Höring is a great blessing. His characters are straightforward, direct and unpretentious, and still young even in old age. His voice comes through the microphone immediately and naturally. He is a linguistic aesthete and vocal acrobat who loves and is loved by the microphone. It is as if you were secretly listening to a person who was simply being who they were, completely unobserved,” said the jury. The “Actor of the Year 2023” honor is one of the highlights of the “Ö1 Radio Play Gala” on February 23rd at the RadioKulturhaus. The laudatory speech for Klaus Höring will be given by actor Wolfgang Hübsch.

Klaus Höring was born in Cologne in 1934. He completed his acting training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. After making his stage debut in Bern, he was a member of the Vienna Volkstheater ensemble for ten years. During this time, Klaus Höring also made his film debut in a Lulu adaptation by Rolf Thiele. Shortly afterwards he entered radio plays with a role in “The Natural Daughter” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. This was followed by engagements in Bern and Munich, but also a lot of work in front of the film camera, especially in adaptations of plays. Eventually Höring came to the Burgtheater in Vienna and also became a stage director there; For example, in 1982 he staged Peter Handke’s “Wishless Misfortune” with Hilde Krahl in the leading role and three years later “Antigone” based on Sophocles. Over the years he has always remained connected to radio plays and has appeared in over 50 new productions. His most recent appearance in a radio play was in the play “Waiting Room” by Daniel Wisser, which is also a candidate for this year’s “Ö1 Radio Play Audience Award”.
