“Klartext” on November 29th in the ORF-RadioKulturhaus and live on Ö1: “Desert Conference against Global Warming”

Vienna (OTS) “Desert Conference Against Global Warming” is the title of “Klartext” on Wednesday, November 29th at the ORF RadioKulturhaus, starting at 6:30 p.m. Climate protection minister Leonore Gewessler (The Greens), climate researcher Daniel Huppmann (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis), youth state secretary Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP), climate activist Lena Schilling and Oecolution managing director Elisabeth Zehetner will discuss with Klaus Webhofer.

The United Arab Emirates is hosting the annual World Climate Conference starting this week. The Paris climate goal of limiting the global temperature rise to well below two degrees, and if possible to 1.5 degrees Celsius, is becoming increasingly distant. To achieve this, a lot would have to be invested in renewable energies and the phase-out of fossil fuels would have to be accelerated. Some forces, in Austria for example the ÖVP, rely on progress and innovation, keyword carbon storage. For many climate researchers, this is only a small part of the solution. Where do we stand when it comes to climate protection worldwide and in Austria? How can we get countries to implement their climate promises? How helpful are climate protests and are mega-conferences like the one now in Dubai a suitable format for making progress on climate protection? Climate protection minister Leonore Gewessler (The Greens), climate researcher Daniel Huppmann (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis), youth state secretary Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP), climate activist Lena Schilling and Oecolution managing director Elisabeth Zehetner will discuss this with Klaus Webhofer.

“Klartext” will take place on Wednesday, November 29th at the ORF-RadioKulturhaus and will be broadcast live on Ö1. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free. However, due to the limited number of places, a binding registration via the ticket office is required.
