From January 14th with “Sport am Sonntag” from Kitz, plus 4 primetime documentaries, all races live

Vienna (OTS) Ski fans, buckle up! The legendary speed week in Kitzbühel will have two runs in 2024 from January 18th to 21st, as well as the legendary slalom on the Ganslernhang. The Hahnenkamm Week on ORF starts on January 14th with “Sport am Sonntag” live from Kitzbühel (as well as a “Sport am Sonntag special” on January 21st). The ORF-1 prime time on January 17th is dedicated to “Doc 1:
The silent heroes of the Streif” and the documentary “Kitzbühel and the Germans” follow the major event – and conclude the comprehensive reporting on January 21st with two further films (“Kitz and Glamour – Streifreisen 2024” and “Mythos Kitzbühel – a contemporary historical review”) Apart from the live races, to which ORF 2 also contributes the city portrait “My Kitzbühel” on January 21st and ORF III also contributes numerous documentaries from January 15th.

ORF 1 will of course broadcast all three races live. The final training starts on Thursday, January 18th, at 10:55 a.m. The commentator for all competitions is Oliver Polzer, Hans Knauß is his co-commentator on the first descent and Armin Assinger on the second. Thomas Sykora comments on the slalom. Rainer Pariasek reports from the finish area throughout, and during the slalom he receives support from Benni Raich. Joachim Puchner once again throws himself down the Streif with the camera. From 5:55 p.m. on January 19th and 20th, ORF 1 will also show the award ceremonies for the two downhill races, analyze it again with Armin Assinger and bring current interviews with the Kitz stars.

This time, ORF chief director Michael Kögler, weather permitting, will be using live images from three drones, which will chase the skiers around the Mausefalle and the steep slope, then again from the Lark shot to the edge of the Hausberg and from there over the traverse to the finish line . Kögler: “Our aim is to go one better every year. After all, the broadcasts from Kitzbühel are the global benchmark in this sport.”

The ORF TV supporting program

“Studio 2” reporter Jan Matejcek from Kitzbühel reports from Tuesday to Friday (at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2). He reports on the mood, meets, among other things, celebrator Hansi Hinterseer, visits the Streif and takes a look behind the scenes of the big ski spectacle. “Guten Morgen Österreich” will also be focusing on the major sporting event on January 18th and 19th.

Who is actually responsible for the spectacle in Kitzbühel becoming what it is? In the “Dok 1” documentary “The Silent Heroes of the Streif” on Wednesday, January 17th at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 1, Lisa Gadenstätter looks behind the scenes of the Gams city and dedicates herself to those people who often spend months of preparatory work put together the mega event. Then the report “Kitzbühel and the Germans” continues on ORF 1 at 9:05 p.m.: It’s a complicated relationship. It’s an hour’s drive from Munich, and that’s why the Bavarian posh world has chosen the Tyrolean cult ski resort as their alpine front yard, so to speak. Many of the German guests only come here around the race weekend and during the absolute peak season. The community seems to be happy with this boom and is defending the building permits, even if long-time residents have to give way due to real estate prices. Nina Nierscher listened to this ORF production in Kitzbühel.

At the end of the Hahnenkamm weekend on Sunday, January 21st, two more ORF 1 productions are on the program. At 8:15 p.m. it’s “Fancy and Glamor – Forays 2024”: Accompanied by, among others, a Marco Schwarz fan, a forerunner and the lady who is responsible for the smooth running in the VIP tent. ORF co-commentator Hans Knauß is also there. The entire Kitz focus will then conclude at 9:10 p.m. with “Myth of Kitzbühel – a contemporary historical review”. The focus is on the last eight decades of Kitzbühel races paired with personal experiences of individual athletes, such as Harti Weirather, Karl Schranz, Hermann Maier and Stephan Eberharter. Political scientist Peter Filzmaier analyzes the sports history and social context. ORF 2 will also be showing the city portrait “Mein Kitzbühel” on January 21st in “dokFilm” at 11:05 p.m. – a filmic journey of exploration into the legendary Hahnenkamm metropolis, in which filmmaker Felix Breisach lets people speak who have one thing in common: deep gratitude, to be able to live in this place – including alpine landlady Rosi Schipflinger, ski legend Hias Leitner, Nordic combined skier and Olympic champion David Kreiner, master tailor Franz Prader, city guide Pepi Treichl, summer theater director Michaela Reith and film star Uschi Glas.

From Monday, January 15th, ORF III will be bringing a program focus on the 84th Hahnenkamm Races. The four-part “ORF III Theme Monday” first presents the new production “Kitzbühel and the Ski Clans” (8:15 p.m.), which questions who really earns from the billion-dollar ski tourism business. This is followed by the documentaries “Kitzbühel and the Russians” (9:05 p.m.), “Kitzbühel and the real estate boom” (9:55 p.m.) and “Kitzbühel – Tourism at any price” (10:30 p.m.). On Tuesday, January 16th, “Heritage Austria” with “Kitzbühel – the rise of a cult location” (9:55 p.m.) will also be all about the popular posh ski resort. “Prices, climate, crowds – is skiing still the most fun?”: Peter Fässlacher discusses this question in the subsequent new edition of the talk format “Streitzeit” (10:45 p.m.) with his guests, including Ursula Bittner (Greenpeace), Michaela Dorfmeister ( Ex-ski racer), Marc Olefs (climate researcher) and Günther Aigner (future ski sport).
On Wednesday, January 17th, “Landleben” will show the documentary “The Old Kitzbühel – Of Mountain Farmers and Pioneers” (9:55 p.m.).
In a new “Land of the Mountains” production on Thursday, January 18th, Marlies Raich explores “Winter in the Kaiser Mountains” (8:15 p.m.): In the film, the former ski star goes on sporting adventures and gets to know the people in the region between the wild Know Kaiser and Kitzbüheler Horn.
Other well-known skiing personalities will be in the spotlight on Friday and Saturday, January 19th and 20th. On Friday from 1:00 p.m. ORF III will be broadcasting five editions of the “Ski Legends” series about “The Miracle Team from Kitzbühel”, Franz Bracket (1:45 p.m.), Karl Schanz (2:30 p.m.), Petra Kronberger (3:20 p.m.) and Toni Innauer (October 16th). Clock). The documentaries “Mythos Hahnenkamm – The Legendary Streif” (5 p.m.) and “Streif – One Hell Of A Ride” (9:05 p.m.) can also be seen.
On Saturday there is a new “Skilegenden” production about the career of Michaela Dorfmeister (8:15 p.m.) on the program, followed by the portrait “Franz Bracket – The Ski Emperor turns 70” (9:05 p.m.) and the “Skilegenden” editions about Annemarie Moser- Pröll (10:05 p.m.) and Andi Goldberger (10:50 p.m.).
