“Kindergartens are the first step into a just future – no child remains in Vienna”

On the occasion of tomorrow’s day of kindergarten, the municipal councils Jörg Neumayer (SPÖ education spokesman) and local council Marcus Gremel (SPÖ family and children’s spokesman) emphasize the central importance of elementary education for social cohesion and social justice.

“Children are our future. And it is clear: who invests in education, invests in a fairer society and a good future for everyone,” says education spokesman Jörg Neumayer, who adds: “The kindergarten is the first educational institution in the life of a child – here the basic stones are laid for self -confidence, language and social competence. We know this in Vienna and also act afterwards.”

City council Marcus Gremel underlines: “Children learn what cohesion means in kindergarten. They discover their strengths, develop team spirit and empathy. Therefore, we say clearly: no child and not the committed people who work in pedagogy are left in Vienna. We continue to work for additional resources and helping hands so that all children of this city have all the chances. Every child is the first point of contact for us.

With over 2,700 day -to -day homes and more than 5,100 groups, Vienna offers the largest care offer across Austria – that is as much as Burgenland and Lower Austria has together. As a smallest state, Vienna has 22.98 % of all kindergarten groups in Austria as a smallest area. In addition, Vienna offers the largest childcare offer, the longest opening times and very few closing days. At the same time, 90 % Viennese kindergartens are compatible with full -time work – a top value in the federal comparison. The visit to the kindergarten in Vienna has been free of contributions in Vienna – a success of Viennese education policy.

“These services are no coincidence, but the result of consistent, solidarity politics for families and children in our city. Together we work in Vienna every day to ensure that all children have a good start to life,” emphasize Neumayer and Gremel.
