Bye-bye culture in the neighborhood: Protest post-its at the »Watt« in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg

Thousands of small post-its, blue, yellow, pink, pink, stick to the glass areas of the cultural pub »Watt« in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg since last weekend. The office items are stamped with sloping birds, reading beer glasses, drink with a tilt, some of them were individually painted. They flutter like colorful scales on the pub. After around ten years with concerts, readings, film screenings, theater, beer and wine, the “watt” must now close. Since January, an initiative of regular guests has tried to extend the rental agreement of the well -running and very popular pub in the neighborhood – but nothing was to be done.
The “watt” became an issue: in the press, on the radio, on TV. 50 state -known artists have signed an open letter for the preservation of the pub. Ex-cultural senator Klaus Lederer tried to mediate. But the owners of the house, a children’s and non-fiction author and a cultural entrepreneur who is on the flag online to promote “grass root culture” did not steer, were not ready to talk to their real existing neighbors. A delicatess business is said to be moving into the pub rooms soon. So delicatessen for better earners instead of conversations, art and friendship.
Drinking connects, and in the “watt” you could do that in a very nice way. More than 11,000 people signed the petition for the preservation of the pub within a few months. As a thank you for this extraordinary support, pub operators Sindy Kichliche with her supporters now these petition signatures in the colorful dandruff tanks, which is still surprisingly good.
