Key handover at Laaerberg | Ankerbrot Holding GmbH, February 23, 2024

After more than 130 years, Ankerbrot is saying goodbye to its production site on Absberggasse in Vienna-Favoriten.

Vienna (OTS)

The new anchorage of the large bakery is Lichtenwörth. The administration and a modern branch training center are moving to Vienna’s third district.

Vienna, February 23, 2024 – The Ankerbrot bakery in Vienna’s 10th district has written city history. However, what was an ideal location in the last century no longer meets the requirements of modern production conditions. The area is now almost completely surrounded by residential buildings, some of the buildings are listed buildings. Today, state-of-the-art bakery technology requires different requirements. They are available in Lichtenwörth, Ankerbrot’s second location. The most modern bakery in Austria has already started operations there. The official opening will take place in April.

The keys were handed over to the new owner yesterday at a small celebration in the historic Expedithalle. Walter Karger, Managing Director of Ankerbrot: “We say goodbye to our long-standing company home with great respect, gratitude to all our employees, a little nostalgia and a lot of optimism for the future.” Among the guests present: district leader Erich Hohenberger, Dr. Erhard F. Grossnigg and Kerstin Gelbmann from the Ankerbrot parent company Austro Holding, historian Christian Rapp, presenter and ANKER fan Kati Bellowitsch and real estate developer Peter Ulm, CEO of allora Immobilien GmbH and representative of the new owner of the property.

The future plans for Absberggasse

The future anchor will be built on the site in Absberggasse in the next few years. It will house the climate campus. Approximately 120,000 m² of CO2-neutral rental space will be available there for offices, laboratories, businesses, research & development and education. The future anchor will thus further enrich the existing neighborhood in Absberggasse, with the climate campus as a lead project and smart solution for the urban living space of the 21st century. “We are pleased to be able to write a new chapter at this traditional location for Favoriten with the future anchor,” said Peter Ulm when handing over the keys.

Modern training center on Haidingergasse

The Ankerbrot administration has also already moved to Haidingergasse 1 in Vienna’s third district, to 1,200m2 of office space owned by the office real estate specialist CA Immo, brokered by the Viennese brokerage firm EDEX Immobilien. What’s special about the new office location on Erdberger Lände: Half of the area contains a new, modern training center for ANKER branch employees, with a training branch, cash register training room and enough space for ongoing barista training, for example.

About the Ankerbrot Group:

The Ankerbrot Group operates over 100 bakery branches with a focus on the greater Vienna/Lower Austria area, making it the largest bakery branch in Austria. In addition to the branches, the high-quality baked goods are also offered to the grocery store and the catering/hotel industry. When it comes to products, ANKER stands for more than 130 years of regional baking tradition. G’staubter Wecken, mürbes Kipferl & Co from ANKER are baked exclusively with Austrian flour. All other ingredients also focus on the best quality and – wherever possible – Austrian origin. Trained bakers pass on their many years of knowledge about bread and baking culture to the next generation, because – supported by the latest technology – ANKER’s Kaisergugelhupf, Striezel or Mohnflesserl, for example, still rely on a lot of experience and traditional handcraft.
