Gernot Darmann the known cyber attack on the IT infrastructure of the Interior Ministry. The fact that such a sensitive area was the aim of a successful attack shows the dilettant handling of the ÖVP interior minister with the internal security of Austria.
“The next massive cybersal scandal shakes a key ministry. After the disaster in the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of the Interior of all things has been proving that it has not done its homework. Our ministries are obviously a security -political ‘pile’ whose digital protective walls are like a Swiss cheese. Interior Minister Karner does not have the digital security of its own house under control. Total failure across the board, which neither our population nor the police officers who occur across Austria, have earned for our security, ”says Darmann.
Particularly alarming is the ministry’s ‘information policy’: “The fact that the attack was discovered weeks ago, but the public was only informed in slices is unacceptable. This is a scandal in the scandal. What does you want to cover up here? What extent is this attack really? Before the at the top of the Ministry of the Interior, no sensitive data, etc. – are a slap in the face for every citizen who trusts the security of his data and the ability to act.
It now needs an immediate and comprehensive clarification of the incident as well as detailed information about the parliament on the exact extent of the damage. “We want to know which data has been run, which systems were compromised, why the security protocols obviously failed across the board. In short: full transparency!” Explained Darmann. It could not be that the citizens would be left in the dark, while the digital infrastructure of our country is brewing under the inability of these black and red losing coalition. “Austria’s internal security is not a game ball for tactical distraction maneuvers and amateurish management. We will set all levers in parliament to put this swamp out of failure and lack of transparency!” Emphasized Darmann.
