At just 23 years old, the Austrian-Philippine countertenor JJ is already causing a sensation in the world of classical music. In May 2025, JJ sings for Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel! With his rare singing talent and performance that combines timeless artificial assault with contemporary energy, JJ wants to ensure the big show moment at the Eurovision Song Contest. JJ will sing at the second semi -final on May 15 to move into the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 17th.

JJ – Pop meets Klassik
What can be seen as the connection between two worlds, opera and pop is a homogeneous whole at JJ. JJ alias Johannes Pietsch was born in Vienna in 2001 and grew up in Dubai before moving back to Vienna in 2016. As a countertenor with an unmistakable voice that rises to soprano heights, JJ has already made a name for himself for his extraordinary range and his soulful performances. JJ is also known to the audience from the ORF event show “Starmania”, where he sang with his extraordinary voice in 2021 until the final shows. JJ is currently performing in the Vienna State Opera and has already participated in numerous productions, including “The Magic Flute”, “From Love Death”, “Tschick” and many other classic masterpieces. Outside of the stage, he further refines his craft by training at the opera school of the Vienna State Opera Classical Music at the renowned music and art private university of the City of Vienna (MUK) at Univ.-Prof. Chamber singer Linda Watson studied.
In 2025, JJ Austria will represent the Eurovision Song Contest, combining his classic roots with a modern artistic vision. The audience can get an impression of JJS Talent on February 7th at 9:20 p.m. in ORF 2 when transferring the new staging of the “Magic Flute” from the Vienna State Opera, where he is the first boy on stage. His song for the ESC will be presented in early March.
Austria’s act for the Eurovision Song Contest
The search for Austria’s act for the Eurovision Song Contest started in early summer 2024. For this purpose, the ESC-tested talent scouts once more sophisticated the domestic scene and for the first time there was also a songwriting camp with authors, composers as well as interpreters-held-held- With the aim of writing the song for the ESC 2025.
In the next step, the most promising songs from a national and international 30-member jury, consisting of a music producer: inside, interpreter: inside, journalist: inside, music creators and music editors: Interior. In addition, almost 30 representatives gave: inside the OGAES – the official fan club of the Eurovision Song Contest – from five countries and the ORF ESC editorial team. Due to all reviews, JJ was selected as an Austrian act for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The song with which he starts for our country at the ESC will be presented to the public in early March.
