Jewish life: Ezzes from Estis: Abi gesint

Health is generally good for Jews. But only as long as they are not sick. That’s why they also say: gesint we a goj (healthy as a non-Jew). And even if they aren’t sick yet, they can still get sick later.

In addition, you don’t necessarily have to be healthy beforehand to get sick, otherwise you would have always been at least somewhat healthy before you got sick. And to have been a little healthy is a lot, even if it is only a little.

Alexander Estis, a freelance Jew without a permanent address, writes so much schmontz in this column that it will make you sick to your stomach.

In order to get well, however, you have to have always been sick before, which is at least as unfortunate as it wouldn’t be the other way around. If you could be healthy beforehand in order to get healthy, then you would simply have to stay healthy all the time.

But if you don’t stay healthy, you don’t become unhealthy, you become sick. Oh dear! If only I were a little less sick when I’m no longer healthy!

»Kohn, you have to take care of your health!«

“Well, I can take care of Rotschild’s money with the same success!”

If you are no longer healthy, then, as I said, you are not unhealthy, but sick. You are sick for yourself, but you are unhealthy for others. Although sometimes you yourself are unhealthy, there isn’t much you can do about it.

After all, you want to be sick for others while at the same time remaining healthy for yourself. However, you are often not even sick for yourself – which you would like to be because others are unhealthy for you. You’re not even sick for yourself, because someone always comes and wants you to stop being sick: See you ojf dajn couples! (Health on your head!) – You don’t know whether that’s a wish or a threat.

Someone constantly wants you to stop being sick, so that you would almost rather be healthy because you are no longer told that you should get well again, than you would like to be healthy because you are sick.

Nevertheless, as I said, being healthy is the main thing, and even as I haven’t said yet, namely in Yiddish. Said in Yiddish: Both extinguishing! – The main thing is healthy!

“Mojsche, imagine that Itzik has lost all his money and now he’s completely poor!”

“Poor? Because of me! Both extinguishing…«

“Mojsche, imagine that now the Itzik is suffering and is just hungry!”

“Hungry? Because of me! Both extinguishing…«

“Mojsche, did you hear it, Itzik, he died of hunger and now he’s completely dead!”

“Dead? Because of me. Both extinguishing…«
