JBS is investing more than $ 7 million in the traceability and support of smaller producers in Pará

With the donation of 2 million labels, the company’s initiative is expanding a groundbreaking program for the development, integrity and traceability of cattle in this state

JBS has invested more than $ 7 million in the traceability and support of smaller producers in Pará. This is part of a groundbreaking state program that aims to pursue the entire cattle and buffalo herd in the region until the end of 2026. The results of the JBS initiatives were presented during the “Expedition to the sustainable meat and leather market of Pará”, one of the Nature Conservancy (TNC) Brazil.

The initiative is part of a more comprehensive merger in which the government, manufacturers, civil society and industry are involved. As part of his measures, JBS has already provided $ 5 million for his “Traceability Accelerator Program”, which aims to promote the introduction of labels for traceability of animals from the company’s indirect suppliers. This includes the donation of 2 million ear brands to the producers and from 175 reader to the agricultural protection authority of the state of Pará (Adepará).

The accelerator program first focuses on the southeast of Parás, in the region between the municipalities of Marabá and Santana do Araguaia. JBS teams and partner organizations carry out field visits to identify agricultural companies and to get in touch with them. They work directly with the employees responsible for traceability, which were trained and accredited by the state of Pará. The reader donated by the company record the data of the individual labeling brands of the animals and thus enable the monitoring of the individual cattle in the state, which has the second largest herd of Brazil.

“Our measures aimed to expand the state program by supporting both direct and indirect suppliers, with the capacity of reaching up to 2 million labels for the traceability of herds. This phase is crucial for the overcoming of bottlenecks and testing the traceability instruments and solutions on a large scale,” said Fábio Dias, head of the department for sustainable vitality at JBS, during the event.

In a strategic partnership with Adepará and TNC, the JBS Traceability Accelerator Program already has partner companies for field mission. In the future, an extension to other regions of the state is planned, e.g. B. on the southwest (Altamira, Anapu and Pacajá), the lower Amazon area (Belterra and Santarém) and the Marajó region. There is also interest in repeating the model in other countries.

JBS also put a significant part of his investments in the Green Offices in Pará: since 2021 the program has received $ 2 million. These offices offer free and specialized support for the environmental regulation of rural properties, with a special focus on smaller generators.

The main goal of the JBS Green Offices is to support the producers from registration to validation in rural environmental register (car), if necessary to promote compliance with the environmental regularization program (PRA), to support the cancellation of embargos and to support non -compliant producers in the recovery of commercial qualifications. In addition, they associate the producers with retraining programs such as Sirflor and Reconecta in Pará.

In this state, JBS maintains four branches in the Southeast region (Santana do Araguaia, Speechção, Tucumã and Marabá). Regularization is accelerated by the platform for sustainable territories (PTS) in cooperation with the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (SEMAS). Since 2024, the offices have also been offering technical and business support (EV 2.0).

The results are significant at the national level: Since the start of the JBS Green Offices program in 2021, 18,042 agricultural businesses have already been legalized, and the reforestation has been running on 7,005 hectares.
