IV welcomes conclusion of negotiations for EU-Switzerland cooperation agreement

The Industrial Association (IV) welcomes the successful conclusion of the negotiations on the new cooperation agreement between the EU and Switzerland. This step is essential to put the economic relations between the European Union and Switzerland on a sustainable basis and to modernize existing contracts. “The agreement is an important milestone that not only secures bilateral free trade, but also strengthens cooperation in key areas. Switzerland’s involvement in crucial EU initiatives such as Horizon and Erasmus+ is particularly important. These collaborations are crucial in order to develop shared innovative strength and promote the exchange of knowledge,” emphasizes Christoph Neumayer, IV Secretary General. The economic importance of the relationship between the EU and Switzerland is significant: the EU is Switzerland’s most important trading partner, while Switzerland is the EU’s fourth most important trading partner. The best possible economic integration is therefore in the common interest of both sides.

Austria benefits particularly from the close cooperation with Switzerland

Switzerland is a key economic partner for Austria in particular: it is the fourth most important destination for domestic exports and the third most important for investments by Austrian companies. More than 1,500 Austrian companies are active in Switzerland and secure over 21,000 jobs there. “Switzerland is also strategically important for the Austrian economy and the labor market due to its geographical proximity. Smooth implementation of the agreement will create the basis for further growth and stability,” said Neumayer. The IV appeals to all stakeholders involved to implement the agreement quickly so that the opportunities for the economy and society can be fully exploited.
