Israel hostility – anti -Semitism: a few ezzes against the Schmonzes

You can see the bag with the big hole and wonder: where is the salmon?

My column »Ezzes von Estis« in this newspaper celebrates the Schmonzes. For this, her author, i.e. I, goes to the philosophical search for the nonsense of life. But some Schmonzes can be found, even though you even searched it, and often it is not even to celebrate. In just this newspaper I discovered an opinion contribution by Marion Detjen, which was published online at the end of January. In it, she reacts to a resolution that was shortened by the Bundestag shortly before and wants to decide the “anti-Semitism and Israel hostility to schools and universities and secure the free discourse area”. Like the previous anti-Semitism resolution of the Bundestag, the current numerous critics called on the scene, especially from the university milieu. Some of these critics are quite reflected, others show-in their reflexive rejection and in the depths of their ignorance-in an eye-catching way, why such a resolution has become necessary, which, among other things, exhorts training in the field of anti-Semitism prevention.

This in no way means that the resolution is not worthy of criticism – it is definitely. But for Detjen, the resolution means nothing less than the abolition of freedom of expression and science; She expected that indoctrination at schools and universities will soon be the order of the day; Yes, it is even an expression of state repression, arbitrary justice and conscious disregard for the Basic Law by the government. And in any case, we have to deal with an authoritarian state in Germany in Germany, “Detjen writes in Rage -” who wants to leave the rule of law behind “.

Dear Marion Detjen! Even if you don’t ask me about it, I have a few ezzes for you:

1. I recommend a visit to an authoritarian -ruled country that abolish the rule of law – and attempt to publish an article in a regular newspaper in which they openly describe the leadership of the country as “authoritarian”. I have relevant experiences with Russia, for example: you will probably not make it. And I also cannot wish them that they can do it, because that would be the last one for a while. At least they would get to know the famous vastness of Siberia at state costs.

2. Please check whether the right resolution is on your table, whether you opened the right tab, saved the right file. It always seems to me that they are referring to a completely different document. For example, they speak of the “almost exclusive focus on the so -called Israel -related anti -Semitism”. I am a philologist and therefore naturally pedant. In addition, the precise reading in the Jewish tradition enjoys a high priority – and I can only recommend this practice that is almost forgotten today. As a post-Talmudic Jewish neurotic and philological pedant, I have added exactly: of the 13 passages of the resolution that mention Israel-related anti-Semitism or Israel hostility, there are ten mentions within a list-together with the non-Israel-related anti-Semitism. The aim of such formulations is to also record a form of discrimination, which, according to last year’s anti-Semitism study at Konstanz University, seems almost as often as the general anti-Semitism-and, as far as the potential partial approval is concerned, even exceeds the latter. Conversely, the general concept of anti-Semitism occurs more than 40 times in the resolution of the general anti-Semitism concept without mentioning the Israel reference. For you, Ms. Detjen, is that an exclusive focus on Israel -related anti -Semitism? And Nechker TOG!

3. Therefore, it seems ironic if you demand: “You have to read the application closely.” Since the language of the application is an “Orwell’s” – an argument for this hypothesis, they remain guilty -, In her opinion, one has to understand the opposite of what is literally in: The fact that the resolution is not legally binding in its logic shows the opposite: namely that the rule of law is abolished authoritarian. The fact that the resolution is to secure the free discourse space – and this has proven to be urgently necessary in numerous cases of anti -Semitic threats to universities – for them means that the conversely discourse participants are excluded. The fact that the resolution explicitly lists all forms of anti -Semitism – the left, the right, the migrant – overlooks right -wing anti -Semitism in Germany.

4. What I can highly recommend in addition to precise reading are facts. You can do so much with them, ignore them, hide them, twist or, somewhat more beautiful, journalistic statements to be proven like bejgelach With salmon. In her entire article, Ms. Detjen, I see – and that must be special irony in view of her commitment to science – not a single reference to a factual event (how about one of the numerous university occupations through groups of terrorism), not a single number ( How about, for example, the number of anti-Semitic crimes since October 7, 2023?) And not a single study result (how about the Constance anti-Semitism study, for example?). I see the bag with the big hole, but I ask it: where is the salmon?

5. Imagine a visit to the doctor. You tell the doctor: “I have such a jump in my chest.” The doctor replies: “Yes and? You also have this liver stain and O-legs. In addition, a patient with kidney problems was here. And anyway, don’t you think about how I am? This is probably not what you expect from visiting a doctor. It is called: Whataboutism. The oppression and discrimination against Palestinians does not occur in the resolution, so their charges are, and the exclusive commitment to anti -Semitism even strengthens “racist stereotypes and the marginalization of affected groups”. Well, it is a resolution against anti -Semitism. So she has – surprise! – Anti -Semitism on the subject. Resolutions against other forms of group -related misanthropy may follow. The Bundestag has dealt several times with so -called antimusable racism, including its increase since October 7, 2023, and there is certainly a need for action here. Alone: to be assumed that “use against anti -Semitism” is, if he does not think of other forms of discrimination at every point, that is almost automatically racist, is pure Chuzpe.

6. Everyone who gets over the lips faster than they think and can research and can do it. When reading “anti -Semitism” through other forms of group -related misanthropy, such as “sexism” or “queer hostility” or “racism”. Do you listen to yourself: does that trigger the same defense reflexes for you? If not, your criticism is almost certainly the best Schmonzes.

Glossar: Schmonzes – Nonsense, Ezzes – Advice, A Nechtiker Tog! – Wörtl.: “A nightly day” (an absurd), Bejgelach – Bagels, Chuzpe – cheek
