The Haag meteorite is an Austrian meteorite that declined near Haag in Lower Austria on October 24, 2024. It is one of the most important meteorite finds of the past decades in Austria. It is an ordinary chondrite that entered the earth’s atmosphere as a bright fireball at 9:25 p.m. CEST and was visible over large parts of Austria and adjacent countries. The meteorite broke into several fragments that have declined in a narrow lusty field of about 9 kilometers long between the villages of Lembach and Bachlerboden (municipality of Haag).

A particularly remarkable fragment of the meteorite landed on the roof of a single -family house of the Westermayr family in Schudutz near Haag. In the case of impact it broke into three parts and fell to the paved parking lot behind the house. Such meteorites that affect humans are called “hammer stones”. In Austria, such an event happened for the first time!
