The continued existence of our solidarity-based health system, social health care that is accessible to all citizens, is anything but assured. Demographic developments with a growing and aging population, the shortage of doctors in the public sector, the negative effects of “cost containment paths” and the decreasing attractiveness of the public health system associated with such developments are challenges that Austrian health policy must face. If politicians and the ÖGK do not take appropriate measures quickly and decisively, our tried and tested solidarity-based health system will get into a dangerous situation with rapidly declining quality and safety of care. This particularly endangers the many people who are wholly or partially dependent on a solidarity-based health system due to limited financial opportunities.
The Austrian Medical Association presents proposals and demands for a well-equipped health system with its “health program”, which it is happy to make available to politicians and also to social insurance, and invites you to a press conference. Please register at pressestelle@aerztekammer.at
