Presentation of the festival program
Von September 13th to 22nd, 2024 finds it thirteenth edition of the art and culture festival WIENWOCHE took place in Vienna. Under the title “The Non-Citizen Movement“ opens WIENWOCHE 2024 Opportunities for action for people living in Vienna without civil or voting rights as well as solidarity cooperatives and puts them at the center of the program. WIENWOCHE supports grassroots movements to organize precarious workers in Austria and promotes their international exchange, e.g. B. from au pairs, prisoners, bicycle messengers, platform workers, protest movements, etc
The festival program varies between Art, discourse and collaborative activism: The WIENWOCHE audience takes over the bike shifts of food delivery workers so that they can organize into a union. An exhibition highlights the situation of prisoners and lets them speak up for themselves. The anti-colonial practice of the dance style Twerk, an audio memorial project for Roma and Sintizze murdered under National Socialism, the networking of activist groups against the EU-led exploitation of natural resources in the Balkans, a queer festival in the style of Turkish Gazinos and the activities for the 30th anniversary of the The migrant self-organization maiz, which is threatened by the “supporting culture”, rounds off the festival program. There will also be an opening characterized by music, statements and performances as well as discourse and cooperation projects. “Star guest“ of the opening weekend is the New York activist and rapper Chris Smalls. In 2022, he and his colleagues achieved union solidarity among Amazon employees and the implementation of a minimum wage for the first time. As part of WIENWOCHE he appears as a rap artist and key note speaker.
