Krems (OTS) – President of the Lower Austrian Industrial Association, Kari OCHSNER, referred in his greetings to the industrial friendliness Europe needs. “Europe must become aware of its great potential again. However, in order to leverage this in the long term and to be able to successfully stand up to the rest of the world, it needs an industrial deal! Energy and labor costs must be competitive again and the hurdles of bureaucracy must be avoided be cleared,” said OCHSNER.
Claus ZEPPELZAUER, ecoplus. Niederösterreichs Wirtschaftsagentur GmbH, Head of Business & Technology, discussed the aerospace sector in Lower Austria. “However, the economic potential is far from exhausted and we as ecoplus actively support companies on their journey. Aerospace is a Lower Austrian topic with a long tradition and a great future,” says ZEPPELZAUER.
Siegfried KNECHT, VP Director R&T Affairs in the AIRBUS Public Affairs Germany Department, addressed the issue of climate protection in aviation. “Airbus is pioneering sustainable aerospace for a safe and united world, and with respect for our European roots, we are committed to Europe’s future,” said KNECHT.
Günther Ofner, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG, explained the EU’s excessive regulation in his statement. “Europe is destroying its growth opportunities in aviation through incorrect and excessive regulation. Especially if “Fit for 55” is implemented in air traffic as currently planned, there is a risk of a significant loss of long-haul passengers at hubs outside the EU such as Istanbul, London or Zurich. It would therefore be urgent to change the current CO2 pricing and, above all, to create the necessary conditions for investing in CO2-neutral SAFs. Only then can the admixture quotas be achieved,” says Ofner.
Graham Turnock, Special Advisor and Head of the ESA Accelerator Unit, spoke about climate issues in Earth observation. “Space technologies, particularly Earth observation, are becoming increasingly important in addressing climate issues. I am pleased about the partnerships we are building at ESA with a wide range of European and international partners to accelerate the use of these technologies to support the green transformation and make the world more resilient to the effects of climate change. It will be great to discuss how we can address these challenges while strengthening the European space sector at the European Forum Wachau 2024,” said Turnock.
