The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17 is a United Nations commemoration day. According to a UN report, 1.1 billion people worldwide live in extreme poverty, more than half of whom are children. As the authors of the report published on Thursday by the UN Development Program UNDP and the Oxford University Poverty and Development Initiative (OPHI) said, 40 percent of people affected by extreme poverty live in conflict areas. That is 455 million people.
