International conference for the decarbonization of the mobility and energy sector

On the way to Zero Impact

Environmental compatibility and sustainability represent the central goals- and at the same time the greatest challenges- for the growing demand for mobility in passenger and freight transport as well as in energy generation. The symposium is therefore devoted to drive concepts that are specially developed for this purpose: internal combustion engines, fuel cells as well as hybrid and electrified systems. The focus is on extremely ambitious CO₂ goals and the reduction of pollutant emissions to a “zero-impact” level.

Innovations for sustainable drives

The decisive technologies include renewable fuels such as hydrogen, methanol and ammonia, new combustion systems and conceptual approaches for internal combustion engines, advanced fuel cell systems and the general electrification of the drive train. All common is an increasing system complexity that makes integrated overall system considerations and infrastructure issues indispensable. A high degree of system integration, digitization and simulation will enable and accompany the development of these solutions.

International exchange of knowledge at the highest level

In 38 lectures explain and discuss outstanding experts: Inside, new approaches and concepts to cope with the challenges on the way to sustainable drives. A separate parallel focus is devoted to large -engine systems.
The participation of renowned lectures by international OEMs and worldwide leading companies as well as research institutions such as AVL, BMW, Bosch, Daimler Truck, Everllance, FEV, Geislinger, Hyundai, Innio Jenbacher, KTM, Liebherr, Toyota, Volkswagen, Wabtec or Wingd. The symposium thus offers a unique overview of research and development across different industries- from motorcycles to cars and trucks, construction machines as well as shipping and locomotive drives to energy generation.

Decades of top research in Graz

The year 2025 marks the 20th edition of the SMTP symposium, which has been taking place in Graz every two years since 1987. The international conference thus looks back on a long tradition of continuous top research and intensive exchange between science and industry. Around 200 participants are expected for the anniversary: inside from over 15 countries that will discuss current trends and innovations in the area of sustainable drives with a leading expert: inside. The aim of the symposium is to emphasize the importance of green solutions for mobility, transport and energy, to provide a well -founded overview of the state of the art and to network the actor: inside worldwide.

Welcome to the anniversary edition in Graz

The Institute for Thermodynamics and Sustainable Drive Systems (ITNA) of the TU Graz and the Large Engine Competence Center (LEC), a Comet K1 Center, cordially invite you to discuss the latest developments and potential in the field of engine and fuel cell research together with high-ranking representatives: inside from science and business.

The organizers Helmut Eichlseder and Andreas Wimmer look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world to the 20th anniversary edition of the symposium in Graz.
