International Classical Music Awards: Award for ORF/Unitel TV production “Káťa Kabanová” from the Salzburg Festival

Picture director Felix Breisach was responsible for the TV production of Barrie Kosky’s new production of the Janáček opera

Vienna (OTS) Success for ORF TV cultural production: At the recently announced International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), the TV recording of Leoš Janáček’s opera “Káťa Kabanová”, created in cooperation between ORF and UNITEL, was awarded in the “Audio & Video Awards” category Award-winning Salzburg Festival 2022. The jury praised the new production by Barrie Kosky, staged for television by ORF picture director Felix Breisach, as an “excellent, truly unforgettable recording” and, in addition to the performance of the orchestra – the Vienna Philharmonic under the musical direction of Jakub Hrůša – and Kosky’s production Above all, the performance of the American soprano Corinne Winters in the title role stands out.

From a total of 375 nominations, ten prizes were awarded in the “Special Awards” category and 16 prizes in the “Audio & Video” category at the ICMA 2024. As already published, the complete recording of all of Anton Bruckner’s symphonies with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and the Bruckner Orchestra Linz under the direction of Markus Poschner will receive a Special Achievement Award. The awards ceremony will take place on April 12, 2024 at the Palau de la Música in Valencia.
