Karner: “I’m looking forward to good and close cooperation”
Vienna (OTS) – The association of municipalities elected a new president on Monday, February 26, 2024. The 53-year-old mayor of Ardagger (Lower Austria), Johannes Pressl, received 94.4 percent of the votes and is thus taking over the municipal association presidency from his predecessor, Alfred Riedl.
“I warmly congratulate Johannes Pressl on his new task and look forward to the continued good and close cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior and the Association of Municipalities. The Association of Municipalities is a well-organized and powerful institution in the interests of the Austrian municipalities,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner on the occasion of the election.
The Ministry of the Interior works closely with the association of municipalities and the individual municipalities, for example in the registration system and in nationwide elections. There is also close coordination on security-related issues in order to be able to respond to regional needs.
