Erwin Lanc, Interior Minister of the Republic of Austria from 1977 to 1983, died. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner recognizes Lanc as a prudent and far -sighted incumbent, who has conducted the Interior Ministry with a calm hand in security policy.
During his term, police training were further developed and the mechanization of police work was promoted. At the same time, this time was characterized by great security challenges, including the terrorist attack on the Vienna Synagogue in 1979 and the murder of City Councilor Heinz Nittel in 1981.
“Erwin Lanc has been in the Minister of the Republic of Austria in years of great security policy challenges and during this time the Ministry of the Interior led with great caution and foresight, but above all with a quiet hand. For this, our express thanks and respect is due. I can express my sympathy for his relatives and friends,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.
