23 percent of people in Austria are convinced that their health will improve in 2025, only ten percent expect it to worsen in the coming year. And that with very good initial values: Seven out of ten respondents to the Austrian Health Report 2024/25 commissioned by Sandoz stated that their current state of health is very good or good. People in Lower Austria are more optimistic than average for 2025 (27 percent improvement), while those surveyed in Burgenland are more pessimistic (14 percent worsening).

says Peter Stenico, Country President of Sandoz Austria. “To ensure that it stays that way, health policy must now deliver: The Austrian Health Report confirms the demands for safe care, shorter waiting times and more statutory health insurance doctors. There is a lot to do here for the future federal government.”
Outlook more optimistic than hindsight
When asked about the development of their personal health from August/September 2023 to August/September 2024, 22 percent of people reported a deterioration, while only 15 percent said their health had improved.
Young people in training expect the most significant improvement
Across all age groups, all respondents assume that their health will improve in 2025. Younger people in training show the greatest optimism: 42 percent of them believe that their health will improve in the coming year.
Optimism in Lower Austria, a little more pessimism in Burgenland
Respondents in Lower Austria are noticeably optimistic about their health at 27 percent; pessimism is most pronounced in Burgenland at 14 percent, followed by Upper Austria at 13 percent.
Optimism is more pronounced in the big cities
At 27 percent, more people in large cities (over 50,000 inhabitants) believe in health improvements in 2025 than in rural areas (20 percent).
