Wherever the FPÖ and ÖVP work together, social benefits are cut, women’s rights are attacked and large-scale fossil fuel projects are concreted onto greenfield sites,” said Judith Pühringer and Peter Kraus, the party leaders of the Vienna Greens, on the occasion of the emerging coalition between FPÖ and ÖVP.
The Vienna ÖVP also has to explain itself
“The FPÖ is a right-wing, anti-European party that represents division and has a worrying closeness to Putin. The fact that the ÖVP, contrary to all promises, now wants to form a coalition with Kickl is nothing other than unscrupulous voter deception. The ÖVP pretended to be part of the alliance against right-wing extremists, only to allow these arsonists to become thieves’ ladders into the Chancellery,” said Pühringer and continued: “The Vienna ÖVP will also have to explain itself, as it has always had a coalition with Kickl excluded. With a view to the upcoming Vienna elections, this clearly shows what the ÖVP stands for.”
Historical failure of ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos
The fact that Austria is now threatened with an FPÖ chancellor for the first time in history is a historic failure of black-red-pink, according to the Greens. “With blue and black in mind, it becomes clear once again how irresponsibly the previously negotiating parties ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos acted. They would have had it in their hands to prevent a right-wing extremist fraternity member from entering the Chancellery. “Five years ago, when faced with a similar threat, the Greens consciously compromised and took on government responsibility,” concluded Pühringer and Kraus.
