After Salzburg, SPÖ is now also gaining ground in Innsbruck – Mayr has convinced with core social democratic issues such as affordable housing – Breiteneder/Sartenheim: Rejection of ÖVP and FPÖ
Vienna (OTS/SK) – Today, SPÖ top and mayoral candidate Elisabeth Mayr made a plus and won a mandate in the Innsbruck municipal council and mayoral elections. SPÖ federal party leader Andreas Babler congratulated on Sunday evening: “Congratulations to Elli Mayr and her strong team on the plus and winning the mandate! After a turbulent time, Elli managed to make an impressive new start for the SPÖ Innsbruck. The increase of 3.2 percent strengthens your path towards a fair Innsbruck! We fight side by side with heart and brain for a democratic Austria, an affordable life and free children’s education facilities for all children,” said Babler. The gains are all the more remarkable because 13 lists competed in Innsbruck. The SPÖ federal managing directors Sandra Breiteneder and Klaus Seltenheim congratulate Mayr and the SPÖ Innsbruck and emphasize: “After Salzburg, we can now also see in Innsbruck: the social democracy is gaining ground. Despite an election campaign overshadowed by male ego struggles and a real material battle between competitors, Elli Mayr managed to convince with core social democratic issues such as affordable housing and the expansion of child care.” ****
In view of the failed black mayoral candidate Tursky and his list, Breiteneder emphasizes: “People are tired of the ÖVP’s power games. Voters want honest politics that is about the interests of the population and not about power. The people of Innsbruck also showed this clearly in the voting booths.” The FPÖ, which fell by a few percent, “was dealt a blow by the people of Innsbruck.”
The election results strengthen Mayr’s support for the upcoming coalition negotiations. “Innsbruck will have a determined SPÖ in the city government that will put all its efforts into supporting the people and important issues such as affordable housing,” said the SPÖ federal managers. (End) bj
