Industry on the domestic political situation – rapid clarity and stable framework conditions are important for the location
Vienna (OTS) –

With the end of the coalition negotiations and the announced withdrawal of Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Austria is at a crucial turning point. Amid the longest recession since 1945, economic challenges threaten to continue to grow. The domestic industry is concerned about the further domestic political uncertainties and is quickly demanding clarity and further steps in order to achieve a federal government capable of acting as quickly as possible that will address the challenges facing the location as quickly as possible. The coming days and decisions will show which path will be taken to form a new federal government.

The reforms that now need to be implemented are already known – labor, energy and bureaucratic costs must be urgently reduced and structural reforms in the areas of administration and pensions are urgently needed. Karl Nehammer tried to take steps in this direction as part of the coalition negotiations. Unfortunately, not all negotiators were aware of the seriousness of the situation, so they continued to insist on rigid concepts from days long past. NEOS’s decision to withdraw from the negotiations underscores the lack of willingness to reform that is evident in certain parts of the SPÖ at the moment.

Thanks and recognition to Karl Nehammer

As in his previous political career, Karl Nehammer has taken on responsibility in turbulent phases and has proven to be able to make difficult decisions that demonstrate courage and a sense of duty. His resignation is an expression of his understanding of political responsibility in challenging times. He deserves great respect and recognition for this. Now it is up to Christian Stocker to reset the course and take further steps to ensure stability in this difficult phase.

Clear commitment to economic and industrial location necessary

The industrial association expects the future government to make a clear commitment to long-term sustainable framework conditions for local entrepreneurs. What is needed is not just short-term crisis management, but also a clear strategy for the future. Austria can only survive as an industrial location if inconvenient but necessary reforms are finally addressed. The industrial association will continue to point out the necessary measures for Austria and Europe in the upcoming legislative period and will always be available to the new federal government as a strong partner.
