Hannes Androsch has shaped Austria politically like few others. His name will always be associated with great commitment to the location, vision and a deep sense of social responsibility. It is with great respect that we say goodbye to an extraordinary person, politician and entrepreneur. He knew how to cleverly combine economic and social interests. As a campaigner for education and research in Austria, he recognized early on that the competitiveness of our country depends on the qualifications of its people. His contributions to the AIT in particular will not be forgotten and will continue to have an impact for a long time. Androsch played a key role in shaping the “AIT success story”, strategically realigning the institute and consistently internationalizing it. The AIT owes its current important role in the interplay between applied research and industry, as well as as a research institution with international appeal, largely to him.
It is also important to recognize his entrepreneurial spirit – for example, he significantly shaped AT&S and developed it into an international flagship with Styrian roots. Hannes Androsch was always a critical thinker, a strong voice and an important designer of our time. On behalf of the entire Industrial Association, we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
