Increasing the actual retirement age instead of the statutory retirement age

In the course of the ongoing government negotiations, Ingrid Korosec, President of the Austrian Senior Citizens’ Association, is once again making urgent calls three packages of measures:

First: Bringing the actual retirement age closer to the statutory retirement age instead of increasing it.

For Korosec, increasing the statutory retirement age is “absolutely not an issue”. She demands: “Bringing the actual retirement age closer to the statutory retirement age is a top priority. The next government must take concrete measures here. We need one “social partnership” for age-appropriate jobs for the state, companies and employees, so that people can actually retire from employment at the age of 65 by 2033. That alone brings the state billions in the double-digit range.”

Second demands Korosec repeatedly “Attractive package”, so that voluntary work in retirement is worthwhile: “Abolition of pension contributions and tax relief are also urgently needed so that people who want to continue working in retirement have more net of their gross. They are important skilled workers and experts who the labor market will need even more urgently in the future than before.”

Third demands Korosec the expansion of prevention: “We need a “Prevention package”. In order for people to be able to work longer, they also need to be able to grow older healthily.”

Korosec warns the government negotiators: “People who have worked all their lives and want to and should work until the statutory retirement age need security and reliability instead of uncertainty!”
