In two weeks, digital office saved 7,000 office hours!

Within two weeks since the digital office was updated, almost 3,500 reporting processes were carried out digitally and over 7,300 documents were downloaded free of charge.

Vienna (OTS) On average, an official route in Austria takes around 37 minutes. Thanks to the new functions in the digital office, such as the registration of secondary residence or the free document service, which were introduced at the end of January, people have already been able to save 7,000 hours in an office and complete their administrative procedures conveniently on their smartphone. 2.5 million people have already registered ID-Austria, which is the key to all public digital services in Austria.

“The Ministry of Finance was, is and remains a pioneer when it comes to making administration simpler, closer to the citizen and more digital. FinanzOnline and ID-Austria are the best examples of our path to success. The more people who benefit from such services, the better. I am therefore very pleased that 2.5 million citizens have already accepted the offer and are using the modern ID-Austria with its numerous possibilities,” said Finance Minister Magnus Brunner, who is also responsible for digitalization.

“At the end of January, the digital office was expanded to include many more functions. For example, we have digitized the entire registration system – regardless of whether it is about registering or deregistering your main or secondary residence. The new digital service has been well received, with almost 3,500 residence registrations being carried out digitally in the last two weeks alone. That’s an increase of 147 percentage points and around 250 digital residence reports per day. Overall, the new functions of the digital office have already saved people 7,000 hours of official procedures,” said State Secretary for Digitalization Florian Tursky.

More than 1 million people use the digital mailbox
The digital mailbox has been significantly improved. For example, push notifications are now sent and users can easily communicate with authorities from the app. This service was also particularly well received:
At the beginning of February, over 1 million people used digital communication with authorities for the first time. That’s an increase of over 900 percentage points. Over 900,000 documents are sent digitally from around 2,450 authorities every month. The administration was able to save almost 100 tons of CO2 in just one month!

The digital registration certificate will start in a few days
The digital driving license was presented in October 2022 and was the first of what are now three digital ID cards in Austria. Last year, Education Minister Martin Polaschek and State Secretary Florian Tursky presented the digital student ID card, followed in September by the digital proof of age. This had already been activated 155,000 times at the beginning of February. The success story of digital ID cards in Austria will soon be enriched by another facet, as the digital registration certificate will be presented shortly. With this, drivers in Austria only have to carry their smartphone with them when driving a motor vehicle.

“Austria has always been a pioneer in e-government. We have once again impressively demonstrated this with the launch of the digital driving license, which is now used by around 560,000 people, and the e-ID platform. In a few days we will start with the digital registration certificate. This then digitizes all the documents that you have to carry with you to drive a motor vehicle,” concludes Tursky.
