“IN THE CENTER”: Climate Adhesive – Heroes or Criminals?

On December 10th at 10:10 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Activists who stick to the streets in early morning traffic regularly heat up tempers. They want to draw attention to the urgency of the climate crisis through traffic blockages and traffic jams. The Vienna public prosecutor’s office is now investigating members of the climate protection group “Last Generation” on suspicion of forming a criminal organization. What kind of activism is legitimate and how far can protest go? Should there be harsher penalties for “climate glue”?

At the World Climate Conference in Dubai, representatives from more than 200 countries are wrestling with strategies to curb global warming. The main point of contention is the future use of fossil fuels. Does a climate conference in a host country that produces massive amounts of oil even make sense? Will there be a joint final declaration that includes a global phase-out of coal, oil and gas? Why is it so difficult to agree on sustainable solutions? Do we need strict climate protection laws or more research and openness to technology?
