With, among other things, obituaries in “Seitenblicke”, “Vienna Today”, TV portrait “The Teddy – A TV Legend”, Ö1 “Audio Pictures” and “Culture Today Special” on ORF III

Vienna (OTS) In memory of Thaddäus “Teddy” Podgorski, who died last night at the age of 88, the ORF is changing its program and honoring the former ORF general manager and outstanding media maker alongside current reporting and obituaries in, among others, “Vienna Today” (7 p.m p.m.) and “Seitenblicke” (8:05 p.m.) on ORF 2, with several programs on TV and radio:

Tomorrow, Sunday, March 17, 2024, 4 p.m., ORF 2 will show a very personally designed TV portrait entitled “The Teddy – A Television Legend” (WH at 11:05 p.m. on ORF 2 and on Tuesday, March 19, 9:55 p.m in ORF III). In it, Teddy Podgorski goes to the places that shaped his life: from the community building in Vienna Simmering to the Admont Stiftsgymnasium, the legendary Viennese restaurant Gutruf to the ORF center on Vienna’s Küniglberg. He describes his life journey based on countless experiences and encounters, including private photo and video material, and does not skimp on anecdotes from his diverse work.

Ö1 will also broadcast tomorrow, March 17th, at 4 p.m. an edition of the “Audio Pictures” series entitled “Podgorski – an Approach” by Günter Kaindlstorfer from 2020, which was created on the occasion of Podgorski’s 85th birthday. He not only experienced the history of the Second Republic, but actively – and proactively – helped shape it: Teddy Podgorski, television pioneer and broadcaster, actor at the Salzburg Festival, among others, director and author, aviator, rider, cyclist, amateur boxer and lifelong lover of English vintage cars. At 18, the young man joined the American occupation radio station “Rot-Weiß-Rot” in Vienna, and at 20 he switched to the newly founded “Österreichischer Rundfunk”. Despite the adverse external circumstances – and many a setback – Podgorski made a career at ORF. Teddy Podgorski has experienced a lot – as an innovative media maker and jack of all trades in journalism. And he met many exciting and original people:
from Helmut Qualtinger to Muhammed Ali. Podgorski talked about these encounters – and other stories from his life – in this feature. He also revealed the family secret recipe for his favorite Polish dish: Bigos.

ORF III will honor Teddy Podgorski with a monothematic “Culture Today Special” on Monday, March 18, at 7:45 p.m. In addition, on Tuesday, March 19th, at 9:55 p.m., ORF III will show a dacapo of the documentary “The Teddy – A Television Legend” followed by a “Long Night in Memoriam Teddy Podgorski” with editions of the cult series “Seinerzeit” and “Jolly Joker”.
