“After the state elections in 2023, we completed the first full year of state parliament in 2024. “It was a year marked by discussions, controversies and changes, but also by solutions, collective decisions and progress, and ultimately a very productive state parliament year,” summarizes the First President of the Carinthian State Parliament, Reinhart Rohr.
A total of 11 state parliament sessions and 124 committee meetings were held, 203 resolutions were passed in the state parliament sessions and 828 representatives made requests to speak during the plenary discussion. “Of the 29 laws passed, the Carinthian housing benefit NEW particularly stands out for me. With a unanimous decision, the Carinthian state parliament has made the social safety net in our country even tighter,” said Rohr.

Savings and expanding democracy
The savings in Carinthia will of course also affect the Carinthian state parliament. At the same time, the rules of procedure will be further adapted to practical requirements next year. Here we are particularly taking into account the feedback from the opposition, because we in Carinthia are proud to have the strongest and most transparent state parliament in Austria and want to continue to defend this top position,” says Rohr, who refers to another showcase project from Carinthia:
Gateway to democracy
In 2025, a democracy mediation project that is unique in Austria will start in the Carinthian state parliament: the gateway to democracy.
“Democracy is an indispensable and powerful tool – a tool for balancing different people, diverse groups and their interests. In any case, democracy needs a good foundation and social cohesion. It is a tool for co-determination for everyone and is therefore a prerequisite for prosperous, peaceful coexistence. Let’s work with this tool! “Let’s continue to develop it and apply it,” Rohr invites everyone interested to use the new offering in the converted Green Hall after the opening. The project, which was developed in cooperation with the Carinthia Museum and is scheduled to start in February, was preceded by a selection by an expert jury chaired by Angelika Hödl, chairwoman of the Carinthian cultural committee. At the moment, Rohr only reveals this much about the winning project: “It’s exciting – just as exciting as democracy itself.”
