IHG Hotels & Resorts launches industry’s first Low Carbon Pioneers program, calling for broader government support to accelerate positive change at scale

London (ots/PRNewswire) IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global hospitality leader, today announces the launch of its Low Carbon Pioneers program, bringing together energy-efficient hotels that do not burn fossil fuels on-site* and rely on renewable energy.

This group of low-carbon hotels is the first community of its kind in the industry and will help IHG test, learn and share insights on sustainability measures. The aim is to inspire other properties to join the program and also to help encourage wider adoption of carbon reduction practices across IHG’s property portfolio. The first Low Carbon Pioneer hotels include various IHG brands and locations in these hotels:

Each Low Carbon Pioneer hotel will have sustainable solutions such as high-efficiency heat pumps for heating and water heating and fully electric kitchens. Each accommodation also has a Global Sustainable Tourism Council recognized sustainability certification**, such as: B. Green Key, or a certification for sustainable building such as LEED, BREEAM or EDGE. To track and measure their energy data, the Low Carbon Pioneer hotels will use IHG’s Green Engage environmental platform.

More hotels will join the Low Carbon Pioneers program in all regions. IHG is also developing a group of Low Carbon Ready hotels to prepare for the time when all energy can be generated from renewable sources in countries or districts where this is not currently possible.
