Pope Francis (2013-2025) was a tireless sponsor of the interreligious dialogue and always campaigned for communication, especially between Christianity and Islam. His message of justice, mercy and peace is a lasting legacy. His commitment to the Abu-Dhabi declaration of the brotherhood of all people, which he signed together with the Großimam of Al-Azhar al-Tayyib, was particularly formative. This groundbreaking document shows that dialogue and mutual respect are the basis for peaceful coexistence. The fact that we were able to honor the five -year anniversary of this explanation only a year ago in Vienna underlines its lasting importance – for the world and for Austria as a place of interreligious coexistence.
At this time of farewell our thoughts apply to our Christian friends. May Pope Francis rest in peace and continue to bear fruit.
