ICMA Special Achievement Award for the complete recording of all Bruckner symphonies to ORF RSO Vienna and Bruckner Orchestra Linz

Vienna (OTS) The jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) has awarded the complete recording of all of Anton Bruckner’s symphonies with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and the Bruckner Orchestra Linz under the direction of Markus Poschner with a Special Achievement Award. The prize will be awarded on April 12th in Valencia.

Since 2021, both orchestras have been working continuously on recording all versions. In December 2023, the recordings of Bruckner’s 7th Symphony were completed at the ORF RadioKulturhaus. “This complete recording of the Bruckner symphonies is an extraordinary project because it questions our listening habits and our musical tradition. It combines musicological research with artistic excellence and brings together Austria’s leading orchestras. In short, the sound of Bruckner, but also innovative,” said the jury.

Markus Poschner, chief conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, about the award: “The ICMA Special Achievement Award 2024 is a fantastic award for an incredible project that no one has dared to undertake before us: the complete recording of all Bruckner symphonies in all versions. I feel extremely honored and am infinitely proud of the magnificent and incredible achievements of two top-class Austrian orchestras: the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, along with their tireless recording teams. What an achievement to perform Bruckner’s symphonies in this fresh and cliché-free way, full of temperament, dedication and passion, in a completely new tone – the intensive work was worth it!”

ORF General Director Mag. Roland Weißmann: “This award is a joy for the entire ORF and I warmly congratulate you. The RSO has always been characterized by almost unsurpassable artistic quality and is exceptionally flexible and changeable. The Bruckner symphonies with the sound of the RSO are an experience that delights music lovers – the award is well deserved.”

“The ICMA Special Achievement Award is a great honor and distinction for the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and once again shows the wide musical spectrum of our orchestra. We found the artistic collaboration with Markus Poschner to be particularly valuable,” says Angelika Möser, artistic director of the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna. And Norbert Trawöger, artistic director of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, states: “The mammoth project of the complete recording is in itself a remarkable undertaking. But the true greatness lies in their unmistakable quality and style, which ensures a worldwide response and is now crowned with the ICMA Special Achievement Award 2024. Bruckner breaks boundaries and connects! We have proven it together and will continue to do so!”
