ICCA Congress Ranking 2023: Vienna in 4th place worldwide | City vienna

Vienna (OTS) For years, Vienna has remained at the top when comparing international conference cities. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has just published its ranking for 2023: with 141 congresses, Vienna is in fourth place worldwide behind Paris (156), Singapore (152) and Lisbon (151).

Year after year, only individual congresses decide who will win the global competition for the “Stockerlplatz”. For the whole of 2023, according to the recently published count of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) of globally held international congress events, Vienna is behind Paris (156), Singapore (152) and Lisbon (151) with 141 congresses. They are followed by Barcelona (139), Prague (134), Rome (119), Madrid (109), Dublin (104), and Seoul (103). In the 15 previous rankings (since 2008), Vienna made it to number 1 worldwide seven times, most recently in 2022. The 2020 ranking was suspended due to the corona pandemic. Following the international trend to increasingly hold physical meetings again, the current ICCA ranking, as in 2022, only refers to those meetings that took place on site in the conference destination.

Norbert Kettner, Director of Vienna Tourism
“We are very pleased about Vienna’s renewed top ranking in an extremely competitive global environment. Vienna’s good performance with third place in the ICCA Europe ranking is an achievement that – in the spirit of the visitor economy – is thanks to the excellent cooperation of all players in the Vienna meeting industry, from the congress centers and venues to the hotel industry to agencies and of course the customers we were able to win for Vienna. My thanks go to all of you, and I warmly congratulate my colleagues in Paris on their first place.”

Austria ranks 14th worldwide

The overall ICCA ranking also provides information about performance at country level: Austria (203) is ranked 14th in the world, the country list is topped by the USA (690), Italy (553) and Spain (505). More than two thirds (69%) of all congresses held in Austria according to the ICCA count took place in Vienna.
