“I vow” – 250 young students celebrate their graduation

Federal Minister Martin Polaschek paid a visit to the Young University

Krems (OTS) 250 children and young people aged 10 to 13 were able to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of science and research for a week at the Young University at IMC Krems. This took place for the 17th time from July 8th to 12th at the IMC Krems campus. At the end of the week, the young academics now know what it is like to get a taste of university life, to learn from real professors and to research and experiment with them.

“I vow” and sponsorship hat throwing

Like the “big ones”, the young students completed their studies with a graduation on Friday, July 12, 2024, in the IMC Krems event hall. The most important program points were the solemn vow, introduced with the Latin formula “Spondeo”, to “remain curious throughout life and always show interest in science and research” and the throwing of the sponsorship hat. Another highlight was the video from the Junge Uni, which summarized the experiences of the last few days. Mag. Dr. celebrated with the young academics. LL.M.(Com) Udo Brändle, Managing Director of IMC Krems, Prof.(FH) Mag. Dr. Martin Waiguny, Academic Director of the IMC Krems, teachers and workshop leaders as well as numerous guests from business, politics and science, including State Councilor Mag. Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister. Thanks to the many supporters and sponsors, the costs of the Young University for parents are only nine euros per child, while at the same time a varied program of the highest quality is offered.

„It’s all in me“

The Young University participants were able to experience the fascination of learning and knowledge in the 40 lectures and 56 workshops. This year the Young University’s motto was ‘It’s all in me’.

“This year we decided on the motto ‘It’s all in me’ because it is particularly important to us to promote the children’s interests and potential and to show what they are capable of.”explains project manager Bianca Taller, BA.

“The Young University at IMC Krems has already established itself as an exciting and varied type of holiday care in Lower Austria. This year, the children were once again able to live out their curiosity and thirst for knowledge in a playful way in the lectures and workshops, and at the same time the parents know that their children are well looked after during the holiday season. Science presented up close and in a child-friendly way – these are the intentions of the Young University at IMC Krems.”said State Councilor for Education Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister.

Amazing experiments and exciting projects made the young students excited about everyday university life. A pool of interesting workshops awaited them, such as “Emergency Heart Attack”, “3D Printing”, “Build your Rocket Car” or “Physics is “Cool” – Experiments with Dry Ice”. The Young Uni children and the team were particularly pleased about the visit from Federal Minister Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Polaschek.

School bag campaign

This year, used school bags were donated again in cooperation with the Stepic CEE Charity Organization powered by RBI Group. The children from the Young University were able to bring these with them to IMC Krems and hand them in. The school bags are filled by the METRO company and then donated to children in Romania and Kosovo.
